Shocking Recording Captures Instant Law Enforcement Are Stabbed in Ambush
A senior officer that leaped to the aid of a partner that was assaulted by a knife attacker received the King's Commendation for Valor.
Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown after he placed a weapon to the throat of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the law enforcement personnel and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist following a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in summer 2023.
Brown attacked with blade the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster before PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a electric weapon.
"Officer knifed," the constable could be heard saying over his radio.
Officer-mounted and dashcam recording shared by the force depicted Brown, who was dressed in black with a head covered, rush to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a blade pointed forward.
He ran into the policeman who lost balance and dropped to the pavement, before Sgt Ansell stepped in and struggled to restrain him to the ground even though being multiple times hit with the blade.
PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and waited for a safe opportunity, concluding the struggle to an end.
Sergeant Ansell stated audibly: "Please provide assistance on my throat here, I got knifed in the neck."
Sgt Ansell suffered multiple open wounds to his neck and more injuries to his arms and torso, whereas Sergeant Foster received slash wounds.
The department stated Sergeant Foster employed his hands to stop his colleague's bleeding before medical personnel reached the scene.
The latest award follows after the law enforcement team were granted internal Bravery Awards in fall 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the area union branch in April 2024.
They additionally received a North West Bravery Award in July 2024.
"The efforts of all three officers ultimately rescued each other and resulted in no bystanders experienced any injuries."
Brown received a sentence to an indefinite hospital order in spring 2024, per officials.
