Oasis Guitarist Paul Arthurs to Miss Concert Series for Medical Care

The guitarist Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs has revealed he will be absent from a leg of his group’s comeback concerts as he begins treatment for a prostate cancer diagnosis.

Concerts He Will Miss

Arthurs, 60, a founding member of the band, announced he will be unable to play at the upcoming shows in Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney and Melbourne.

The show in Seoul is set for 21 October, followed by Tokyo on 25-26 October, Melbourne on 31 October, 1 and 4 November, and Sydney on 7-8 November.

Health Update

In a social media post, he shared that he was diagnosed prostate cancer earlier this year and is responding well to therapy.

“Early this year I was found to have prostate cancer. The positive aspect is I’m responding really well to treatment, which enabled me to take part in this amazing tour.
“Now, I am needing to take a scheduled pause for the next phase of my care, so I’ll be unable to attend the gigs in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney. I’m very disappointed to be absent from these events but I’m doing well and will be back ready to go in time for South America.”

Earlier Cancer Diagnosis

This is not his first medical challenge. In 2022, Arthurs disclosed he had been diagnosed with a tonsil cancer diagnosis.

At that time, he stated: “Just to let you all know I’m going to be pausing from performing for a while. I have been found to have a tonsil cancer. But the good news is it’s treatable and I will be starting a treatment plan soon.”

Career Highlights

Arthurs was a member in the band The Rain with Liam Gallagher in the start of the 90s before they brought in the frontman’s sibling, Noel, who later insisted they adopt a new name.

He featured on three records with the band, including the landmark Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, before departing in 1999 during the production of the next record, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.

Arthurs later joined Liam Gallagher’s band temporarily and has frequently played live with Liam during his solo career, including at the UK music festivals in 2021.

He also established the group Parlour Flames and served as a broadcast presenter after his time with the group.
